I'm not sure if I mentioned that I am taking an online blogging class called writing 101 so a few of my blogs during the next few weeks will take me a bit of tract at first but the end result will be a better relationship between you and me.
So here goes prompt number two.
Some people might feel discomfort when standing alone in front of a large crowd that does not seem to take their focus from your every move and their eyes from puncturing holes in your chest as you walk back and forth, closer and away from them.
That same feeling that most artists must get at the beginning of their careers when walking on top of a stage for the first time even with a half-empty room. It is only with time that it goes away, even though that bellyache that you get before going through the curtains and in front of the screaming fans never gets old. Most people are not built for this kind of pressure, but I believe that you could grow to love it the more you set foot on that stage.
That same feeling is the one that we as nightclub promoters get when we stand in front of that closed door, trying to look as sharp as possible knowing that all eyes are set on you the minute you walk out. The clock hits ten pm, it is showtime ! the big guy usually opens the door as you step out and see that the front podium is ready and organized with the two hostesses dressed in a short black dress that somehow we all identify as uniform but it is not. The ladies smile as you approach and say they are ready. You turn around towards the street and see a large crowd gathering out there, a few known faces or acquaintances, you smile at one of them and like magic, they all start waving their heads and smiling at their friends with a feeling of accomplishment because they know you saw them and they expect you to come towards them and take care of them first. As you walk away from the podium towards the rope you find the handsome, well dressed and well paid almost model-like friend who is your secret weapon, but others know him as the doorman. You both give each other a manly hug and exchange a few words, you act like you are talking about helping the people on the other side of the ropes but you are most likely asking him to leave someone out because of the way they are dressed or the way they acted the last time they went there. Then comes the kiss of Judas as you say hello to that person you are not letting in, you tell them you spoke to the doorman and they will let them in soon.
It is fun to go out to a club and dance the night away, but nothing beats the feeling of spending the night on the other side dancing inside the ropes.
If I could be anywhere right now this is where I'd be.
